Nepal Floods Appeal from Friends of Warrandyte

GLOBAL EMERGENCY FUND

Nepal Flood Appeal from Friends of Warrandyte

Aware that we are all getting disaster fatigue nowadays, but I think what’s happened in Nepal deserves special consideration for your support.

The worst-affected town is Syafrubesi, a place close to my heart. I helped set up a home for 59 trafficked children in 2011 and returned to coordinate the shelter response there following the 2015 earthquake. It is one of the most remote and beautiful parts of the Himalayas, with some of the warmest, friendliest people.

As the photos show, Syafru has been completely destroyed. The relief effort is made that bit harder as so many bridges and roads have been washed away, and with multiple hydroelectric projects destroyed, they will be without electricity for some time.

Given the number of disasters globally and almost all governments reducing their foreign aid budgets, now more than ever communities in remote areas need support from reasonably well-off families like ours across the world.

I’ve seen the Red Cross in action and have always been impressed. They know the areas, know the people, have access to supplies, and I’m confident will ensure aid reaches those most in need.

If you can, please join me in supporting the Red Cross appeal – many thanks!
