Let’s help people impacted by the Middle East Crisis
Hi,
I've decided to run a fundraiser to support the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement in response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Having deployed as a nurse three times to Gaza, and currently on my fourth deployment, this cause is very close to my heart.
You can read about my experience here: https://bit.ly/3HzWta6
And here: https://youtu.be/r0oAx9ofZb0
After 23 months of devastating conflict in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, the grief and suffering of millions is profound and heartbreaking.
I quote the ICRC president Mirjana Spoljaric when I say that conditions in Gaza are "worse than hell on earth."
"Humanity is failing."
"We cannot continue to watch what is happening. It's surpassing any acceptable, legal, moral and humane standard. The level of destruction, the level of suffering"
Under International Humanitarian Law, states and all parties to an armed conflict are obligated to allow and facilitate humanitarian assistance to civilians. This is crucial to ensure that medical supplies, food, water, hygiene items, and other essentials reach those in need.
Humanitarian organizations have proven track records of distributing humanitarian assistance to civilians in an effective, safe, and dignified manner. They must be allowed to respond at scale and in accordance with the Fundamental Principles of neutrality, impartiality, and independence.
The small amount of assistance currently entering Gaza is nowhere near enough to meet the needs of civilians. They are struggling to survive.
Healthcare facilities are lacking consumables and essential medicines; many are already exhausted – we need to see a resumption of aid deliveries and urgent replenishment in order to provide much-needed medical care to patients. Repeated attacks impacting the work of healthcare facilities and medical personnel has only compounded the already dire situation.
The brutal killing of 15 medical, civil defence, and humanitarian personnel, including eight medics from the Palestine Red Crescent Society was appalling. These staff and volunteers were risking their own lives to provide support to others.
I quote The ICRC director general when I say:
"Today's wars are becoming the graveyard of our humanity, where respect for the laws of war is being buried alongside those they are meant to protect"
International humanitarian law is clear: medical personnel and facilities must be respected and protected in all circumstances. All parties must ensure that hospitals and medical facilities remain sanctuaries to preserve human life.
Aid must be allowed to enter Gaza. Hostages must be released. Civilians must be protected. Without immediate action, Gaza will descend further into chaos that humanitarian efforts will not be able to mitigate.
There is relentless human suffering. My heart will stay with my national colleagues who have no respite.
Please donate if you would like to help.
Thanks

Gaza Update September 2025
Sunday 7th Sep
Thank you to everyone who has donated to this important cause. It is very much appreciated.
I am writing to you to give you an update on the situation here in Gaza and ask that you share this information with your colleagues, friends and families.
Since May 27, security has deteriorated significantly. The hospital has seen the scale and frequency of mass casualty incidents drastically increase since the launch of new food distribution sites nearby. The Red Cross hospital has treated more than 4,500 weapon wounded patients and recorded more than 300 fatalities. Among the wounded are women, children, elderly, young men and boys. Most say there were simply trying to obtain food for their families. Our 60-bed field hospital has been overwhelmed; bed occupancy is at an all-time high of 150-200% (90-120 patients admitted at any one time). At the hospital we are also seeing increasing numbers of patients present with signs of malnourishment. Food scarcity is compromising our patient’s nutrition, delaying their recovery from injuries and increasing the risk of complications.
We are gravely concerned about the deteriorating humanitarian condition across the Gaza Strip and mass evacuation orders in the north. A mass evacuation of Gaza City could never be done in a way that is safe and dignified under the current conditions. Such an evacuation would trigger a massive population movement that no area in the Gaza Strip can absorb, given the widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure and the extreme shortages of food, water, shelter and medical care.
Civilians are already traumatised by months of fighting and terrified by what could come next. Many are unable to comply with evacuation orders because they are starving, sick, injured or suffering from physical disabilities. All civilians are protected by international humanitarian law (IHL), whether they leave or stay behind, and must be allowed to return home. IHL requires that when evacuation orders are issued, Israel must do everything to ensure that civilians have satisfactory conditions of shelter, hygiene, health, safety and nutrition, and that families are not separated. These conditions cannot currently be met in Gaza. This makes any evacuation not only unfeasible but incomprehensible under the present circumstances.
ICRC and national societies like Australian Red Cross continue to work hard to help operate the Red Cross field hospital. Stand with humanity and stand in solidarity with national healthcare workers who are the driving force and continuity behind vital projects like the field hospital, which is providing 24/7 essential humanitarian assistance on the frontlines.
